Inverse-square law in acoustics

Definition

In acoustics, the sound pressure SPLSPL of a spherical wavefront radiating from a point source decreases by half as the distance rr is doubled. The pressure ratio (intensity of sound, as opposed to power ratio) is not inverse-square, but is inverse-proportional (inverse distance law):

SPL1r SPL \propto \frac{1}{r}
